Parashat Bo: בא

On Shabbat Bo (Exodus 10:1-13:16), Maqam Sigah-Iraq (Persian: "third") is applied according to some sources for two reasons. One reason is because this is the third perasha in Sefer Shemot and Sigah means "third." Sigah is also applied in special ritual ceremonies, such as the Passover seder that we are introduced to in this Torah portion. This maqam will be familiar to many because the melody of it is the same as the Syrian way of reading from the Torah. Other sources disagree with above and cite to apply Maqam Rahawi-Nawah, which is more associated with the Passover festival. PIZMON SEFER TORAH: "Mi Yemallel" (page 361-II) describes the Ten Plagues. MISHMARA: Tractate Nega'im (Sephardic Pizmonim Project, www.pizmonim.com).
